Barbara Jeanne Wilkie Tedford is a retired English professor, having taught at Davis & Elkins College and Glenville State College in West Virginia and Robert Morris College in Pennsylvania. Her degrees are from Maryville College (BA 1957), the University of Tennessee (MA 1960), and the University of Pittsburgh (Ph.D. 1970). Over the years she presented papers at state, regional, and national English conferences and published articles in scholarly journals. One might say that she has engaged in writing, publishing, and editing since childhood.

She served a term as secretary on the board of the West Virginia Humanities Council and was also project director for several grants from that body, including researching and portraying a character in the Chautauqua project in 1993. After retiring from teaching, she became active in the Elkins Branch of the American Association of University Women, the John Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Chapter X of P.E.O., College Aid Club at Davis & Elkins College, and the Higdon Family Association. She is the daughter of the late William Howard and Jessie Higdon Wilkie. Jessie wrote a book on the descendants of ancestor Joseph Huffman Higdon and was active in the HFA since its founding.

Married to Maryville classmate Sidney H. Tedford (a retired music professor and choral director), she enjoys playing the bowed psaltery in a trio, "Music Abounding," with Sidney on violin and a friend on keyboard. Barbara and Sidney also enjoy living in and fixing up their 1894 house, where they lived from 1961 to 1970 and which they bought again in 1997, when it came on the market.
