Stephanie Shook Thomas sent a photograph of her great-great grandparents Charlie and Nancy Jane (Higdon) Mincey that was taken in front of their home in Ellijay, Macon County, North Carolina. Stephanie had just returned from a recent stay at the Mincey homestead, which has been remodeled a bit and is now owned by Joe and Betty Shook.
Nancy Jane "Nannie" Higdon (b. 1878) is the daughter of Thomas Bragg Higdon (b. 1855) and his first wife Mary Jane West. Stephanie writes, "Ollie Jane Mincey and Lawson Lester Shook are my great grandparents. Samuel Lawson Shook and Julia Elizabeth Crowe are my grandparents. Samuel Richard Shook and Maria Anna Pastula are my parents."
Stephanie's father was only seven when Nannie died, but he had the utmost respect for her and Charlie. Stephanie's father passed away in 2000, but she remembers him telling her that Charlie always had candy in his pocket for children and that Nannie was a very gentle and kind woman whom he respected.
