2007 Annual Meeting at San Antonio, Texas

Janice J. Higdon, President

Yee haw, Texas!

In a word, the 2007 HFA meeting in San Antonio, Texas, was superb. The Menger Hotel was an ideal location with the Alamo on the left and Riverwalk to the right. All we had to do was walk out the door to enjoy the sights and sounds of San Antonio. Restaurants with their tempting foods and live entertainment added to the "party" feel of the location. Shoppers were in spending heaven. The group outing on Friday took us through La Villita, the Institute of Texan Cultures, to lunch at Mi Terra restaurant with more shopping at the Mexican Market. The tour of the Southwest School of Arts and Crafts was also the starting point for our riverboat cruise.

Welcome new members!

Pat and Les Higdon traveled from Georgia to attend the 2007 meeting in San Antonio and decided to join the association. Many of you met Pat and Les Higdon last year at the 2006 meeting in Hiawassee, Georgia. We are pleased to have them as our newest members.

Changing of the guard

For the record, Charles and Nancy Higdon really did retire from their respective positions as Treasurer and Technologist for the HFA. They are easing the transition as the new Treasurer Carolyn Cole, shown below, and Technologist Travis Higdon (another new member) settle into their new roles.

Right: Carolyn Cole from Texas, our new Treasurer, enjoys a minute after lunch at Mi Terra.

From Kentucky to California

Saturday night's banquet was a Texas style cookout in the Minuet Room of the Menger Hotel. Eugene (left) and Georgetta Smith from Kentucky are seated next to Jim Kelly (right) from California.

Eugene, the Historian for the HFA, provided the necrology report during the evening. This is the time when we take a moment to remember the family members who have died since the previous meeting.
