How the HFA BeganAfter becoming interested in researching Higdons, Jo Ann Smith published a newsletter in January,1972, in Raleigh, North Carolina. (Jo Ann's mother was a Higdon.) About a dozen people donated one dollar each to help pay for printing and postage. As time went on, more people learned about the newsletter and subscribed. Interest grew in the family history. A feeling of closeness developed among the subscribers. A need to meet culminated in a get together in Franklin, North Carolina in August 1975. That group voted to form The Higdon Family Association. The first official meeting of the association was held October 15-17, 1976 in Raleigh. |
